Stage and screen legend Ben Gazzara has died after losing a battle with pancreatic cancer – the same disease that killed his Road House co-star Patrick Swayze.
/> Gazzara, who was 81, died at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Friday.
A native New Yorker, the Emmy winner studied with drama guru Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio and became a Broadway stage sensation in the 1950s thanks to leading roles in plays like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Hatful of Rain.
Gazzara made a string of TV appearances in the late 1950s and hit the big screen in Anatomy of a Murder, opposite James Stewart, in 1959.
The film picked up seven Oscar nominations and shot Gazzara into the Hollywood spotlight – where he became a revered actor for 50 years. Key projects have included Convicts 4, Saint Jack, The Big Lebowski, Buffalo 66, Happiness, Dogville, Summer of Sam and the 1999 Thomas Crown Affair remake.
Gazzara also enjoyed a string of movie successes as legendary director John Cassavetes’ collaborator – the two old pals teamed up for Husbands, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie and Opening Night.
He always brought a sense of great drama and a tremendous physical presence to his roles, often playing villains and morally corrupt characters.
On TV, he is best known for his role as Paul Bryan in the long-running 1960s series Run For Your Life.
He returned to the stage in recent years and toured his one-man show throughout the New York area as he battled throat cancer.
Gazzara was working with Jerry Lewis and Peter Bogdanovich on new movie Max Rose when he died. As WENN went to press it was not known if he had completed his work for the film.

For all the criticism leveled at the first season of The X Factor – which resulted in the dismissal of Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul and Steve Jones last week – no one took issue with the show’s champion.
Melanie Amaro can seriously sing.
And Super Bowl viewers will find out for themselves on Sunday, as the 19-year old teams with Elton John for a 60-second Pepsi commercial. Said the latter: “Pepsi wanted to make me ‘King for a Day’ on Super Bowl Sunday. How could I possibly pass that up?”
What, exactly, is he talking about? Watch the spot now and see for yourself:

Miley Cyrus has gone very public with her defense of gay marriage.
In July of last year, the singer got a tattoo (below) on her finger that she posted on Twitter, along with the caption “All LOVE is Equal.” She via an editorial in Glamor.

“A lot of people mocked me,” Miley writes. “They said, ‘What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!’ And I said, ‘Well, if you were a true Christian, you would have your facts straight. Christianity is about love.’”
“I believe every American should be allowed the same rights and civil liberties. Without legalized same-sex marriage, most of the time you cannot share the same health benefits, you are not considered next of kin and you are not granted the same securities as a heterosexual couple. How is this different than having someone sit in the back of the bus because of their skin color?”
It’s just not right, Miley concludes of the argument that homosexual couples are somehow held to a different standard than heterosexual couples.
“We all should be tolerant of one another and embrace our differences,” she writes.
No doubt Cyrus will fall under fire once again for making her beliefs on this controversial subject well known, which is exactly why we admire her so much for doing so.

It’s a doubly great day to be an Adam Lambert fan today.
First, the singer announced that he would front an upcoming tour with the remaining band members of Queen, hitting up various arenas and stadiums in honor of late singer Freddie Mercury.
Now, Lambert has released the official music video for his latest single – off his soon-to-be-released album – “Better Than I Know Myself.” In it, we see two sides of the singer, as a pair of personalities square off; one is all dark and leather-y, the other calm, serene, sipping on tea even.
Which will win out? Watch and see what happens:

What are U watching at the movies this weekend?
Box Office analysts predict moviegoers will pick either The Woman In Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, or found footage superhero flick Chronicle. The flicks are estimated to rake in between $13 and $15 million this weekend, while the much larger budgeted family film Big Miracle is only predicted to make up to $7 million this weekend.
Is Drew Barrymore not enough of an onscreen presence to carry a film anymore? Times have changed!
In all honesty, we’ll be picking DanRad over her too! Ha! Sorry, Drew!

It’s been quite a day for Adam Lambert!
Earlier today, we learned that Queen is bringing on Adam as their frontman for their summer 2012 tour!
In an impressively strategic move, Adam has ALSO chosen today to debut the music video for his single Better Than I Know Myself (above)!
As we said before, it’s a bit slower than what he usually does…but we’re still feeling it!
What do U think? Are U liking this video? Any new thoughts on Adam joining Queen???

New York City will be missing Kelly Ripa on Monday, February 27. The Live! With Kelly host is flying from the East Coast to the West to tape the Live! With Kelly’s After Oscar Show at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre.
The post-Academy Awards show will feature interviews with winners and presenters while all of the hottest fashion walking the red carpet (which you can get LIVE, right here, during the Oscar broadcast).
Guess we’ll have to wait until the winners are revealed on the 26th to get an idea of who will be appearing on the show, but you know who won’t be there? Ryan Gosling….because he wasn’t nominated for Drive or The Ides Of March, which still bums us out, but maybe he’ll be a presenter.
Actually, considering the stellar year he has just had and the very little recognition he’s gotten (he was even snubbed for People‘s Sexiest Man Alive!), he BETTER be a presenter! LOLz!
Will U tune in to watch Kelly Ripa broadcast Live! from El Lay the day after the Oscars?
